Wang Yi’s visit to Myanmar reached a number of political consensus, China decided to provide a batch of new crown vaccines free of charge
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs website reported on January 12 that from January 11 to 12, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Myanmar. The two sides reached a number of political consensus on the future development of China-Myanmar relations:
First, continue to fully implement the results of Chairman Jinping’s visit to Myanmar, coordinate and promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and promote the building of a community with a shared future. When President Xi Jinping and Myanmar leaders announced the first anniversary of the establishment of a China-Myanmar Community of Shared Future, the two sides have reached agreement in principle on the text of the “Action Plan for Building a China-Myanmar Community of Shared Future” and will sign it as soon as possible.
The second is to strengthen anti-epidemic cooperation, deepen joint prevention and control, and improve necessary “fast channels” for personnel exchanges and “green channels” for cargo transportation. China will continue to provide anti-epidemic supplies based on Myanmar’s needs, decide to provide Myanmar with a batch of new crown vaccines free of charge, and continue to discuss vaccine cooperation.
The third is to deepen the alignment of the development strategies of the two countries, jointly build the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor with high quality, and accelerate the advancement of three-terminal supporting projects and interconnection cooperation such as the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone, Yangon New Town, and the Border Economic Cooperation Zone. China is willing to combine relevant project cooperation and actively consider providing preferential loans and other financing support to Myanmar, and is willing to maintain communication with Myanmar on extending the G20 debt relief initiative arrangements.
Fourth, implement the five-year plan for the development of China-Myanmar economic and trade cooperation and further enhance the scale and quality of bilateral trade.
Fifth, intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges and enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. Taking into account the impact of the epidemic and other factors, the two sides will extend the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar and the China-Myanmar Cultural Tourism Year to 2021.
Sixth, China welcomes Myanmar to take over as the coordinator of China-ASEAN relations, and is willing to work with Myanmar to promote the upgrading of China-ASEAN relations, build China-ASEAN blue economic partnership, and promote the “Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement” to take effect as soon as possible.
Seventh, take this year’s fifth anniversary of the Lancang-Mekong cooperation as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation, give full play to the role of co-chairs, consolidate cooperation in water resources, and do a good job in linking Lancang-Mekong cooperation with the “new land-sea channel”.
The eighth is to support the Global Data Security Initiative and jointly promote the construction of a China-ASEAN cyber security community.
Ninth, we will continue to adhere to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence jointly initiated and practiced by China and Myanmar, oppose unilateralism and protectionism with a clear-cut stand, and jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of both sides and the national dignity of the country.
Tenth, China reiterated that it will firmly pursue a policy of friendship with Myanmar, support Myanmar in advancing the post-election political agenda, and support the new government in Myanmar.
Eleventh, China supports Myanmar in continuing to uphold the “Panglong Spirit” to advance domestic national reconciliation, and is willing to work with Myanmar to combat cross-border gambling, online fraud and other criminal activities, and jointly maintain peace and stability in the border area.
Twelfth, China supports Myanmar to properly handle the Rakhine State issue, supports Myanmar-Bangladesh to strengthen dialogue, and initiates the repatriation of the first batch of people avoiding chaos as soon as possible.
During this visit, the two sides also signed or announced eight specific results : First, the “China-Myanmar Economic and Trade Cooperation Development Five-Year Plan” was signed. The second is to sign the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The third is to start the construction of China-aided Myanmar CDC. Fourth, China announced that it will provide Myanmar with a batch of anti-epidemic supplies. Fifth, China announced to provide annual assistance to the Myanmar peace process. Sixth, the “Memorandum of Understanding on the Feasibility Study of the Mandalay-Kyaukphyu Section of the China-Myanmar Railway” was signed. The seventh is to sign the handover document for the resettlement project for the displaced in Kachin State, Myanmar. Eighth is to announce the start of construction of the Chinese-aided Gunnong Bridge in Myanmar.
