Wang Yi first conveyed the cordial greetings from President Xi Jinping to President Ma Momo. Wang Yi said that three years ago, Mr. President and Foreign Minister made the political decision to resume diplomatic relations with China, which opened a new historical chapter in China-Kikie relations. Since the resumption of diplomatic ties, the cooperation between the two countries has had a good start, developed rapidly, and achieved fruitful results, bringing tangible benefits to the Christian people. The Chinese side is satisfied with the status quo of the development of bilateral relations and is full of confidence in the future development prospects. We support the Kiribati side in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence and national dignity, and pursuing an independent development path that suits its own national conditions and is supported by the people, so as to achieve national stability and sustainable development.
Ma Mao asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings to President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people, and thanked China for its friendship and valuable support to Kiribati. Ma Mao said that the resumption of diplomatic relations between Kiwi and China is on the right side of history and brings new hope to Kiwi. Since the resumption of diplomatic relations, the relationship between the two countries has overcome the impact of the epidemic and achieved stable and healthy development. The Kiribati side highly appreciates China’s demonstration of its responsibility as a major country and its commitment to promoting world peace, openness and prosperity. Looking forward to strengthening the alignment of the “20-year development plan of Kiribati” with the “Belt and Road” initiative, consolidating the sound development momentum of bilateral relations, and promoting practical cooperation to a new level.
Wang Yi expressed that China firmly adheres to the principle of equality for all countries, big and small, and has always been a good friend and good partner of Kiribati. The two sides agreed to make good use of the China-Pacific Island Countries cooperation platform to expand cooperation in response to climate change and human resources training.
