The representative of China spoke with the Special Rapporteur on torture at the 49th session of the Human Rights Council on the 11th, expressing concern about the serious police violence and torture in the United States.
The representative of China stated that there have been numerous deaths caused by police brutality in the United States, and at least 1,124 people will be killed by police violence in 2021. In the year since the death of George Floyd in police brutality, U.S. law enforcement officers have reportedly killed hundreds of more minorities in the United States. Torture, ill-treatment and violence are frequent in various places of detention in the United States, including private prisons, and Guantanamo Prison is notorious for systematic torture and torture. China calls on the Special Rapporteur on Torture to pay more attention to the above-mentioned human rights violations by the United States, and urge the United States to effectively resolve relevant issues.
